Larry Cherrett - Builder | University of Manitoba Rugby Football Club
Larry Cherrett first played with the Winnipeg Wanderers RFC in 1970, learning the game from MRHOF Honoured Members Albert Shepardson and Derry Newton. In 1973, together with Tom Millar and Desmond Walton, they founded the University of Manitoba Rugby Football Club (now the Manitoba Wombats) where he played until 1984, finishing his playing career in 1985 with the Assassins. Larry served countless rugby organizations as a volunteer, director and leader – most notably as President of the University of Manitoba RFC, Rugby Manitoba and Maple Grove Rugby Park, as well as a member of the Maple Grove Rugby Park Founders Committee. He helped coach a combined Vincent Massey/Kelvin side which won the high school championship (1999), was the Honorary Rugby Chairman at the 1990 Western Canada Summer Games and co-chaired the Selection Committee of the MRHOF for over a decade. Larry continues to support the game and is very deserving of his induction into the Manitoba Rugby Hall of Fame.
